A lot has changed in Yuma over the last century – but one thing that hasn’t is the reliable sunshine that favors this southwestern town an average of 350 days a year.

In fact, back in the day, Yuma hotels boasted that they offered “free board every day the sun doesn’t shine.  Now, in honor of Arizona’s Centennial celebration, the whole community will renew the historic offer for twelve months beginning August 1.  “Since Yuma is America’s sunniest city, we think that this is a perfect way to shine a light on our climate and celebrate a century of hospitality,” said Susan Sternitzke, executive director of the Yuma Visitors Bureau. What’s in a Name? A Starwood Surprise!

As travel journalists, we travel all over the world and we’ve stayed in some really remarkable properties over the years.  We are certainly familiar with the Starwood brand of properties (W, Le Meridien, Westin, St. Regis, etc.), so when were invited to view the renovations of three Northern Virginia Starwood Sheratons, we really didn’t expect to see anything different.  But the Sheraton National, Sheraton Old Town Alexandria and the Sheraton Crystal City presented some very pleasant surprises and certainly surpassed our expectations. Ice-Skating on the Eiffel Tower

If someone loves ice skating and Paris, they can combine it. It is possible to ice skate on the first floor of the Eiffel tower till February 9th.

Cold weather usually makes people stay at home, not so in Paris. People really enjoy winter in the French capital. They go ice skating nearby the tallest building in France, the Montparnasse skyscraper. Many tourists also like ice skating not only in front of the Eiffel tower but also on its first floor. (more…)
