The GI Film Festival is the first and only film festival in the nation dedicated to the American Armed Forces. This event marks the 2011 GIFF Kickoff at Policy Restaurant in Washington, DC. We will also introduce you to one of this year’s filmmakers, Christopher Loverro. His wonderful short film, Journey Home, was one of the 31 films selected to showcase during GIFF.
The 6th Annual Asian American Heritage Festival kicked-off in Silver Spring, MD. The Festival is a month-long celebration of Asian Heritage and Culture throughout the world. Human trafficking is the largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world and is worth an estimated $32 billion annually. As responsible travelers there is a lot we can do to fight this dreadful human rights violation. World Footprints has recently partnered with the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT) and we’re pleased to share this video that encourages us to “open our eyes” to the things that are occurring around us.

We’ll travel from the East Wing Entrance through the East Colonnade to many different rooms, including the Blue Room where the official White House Christmas Tree is housed. There’s a Military Appreciation Tree, an oversized Bo made out of 40,000 pipecleaners and the 350 lb white chocolate gingerbread house that took 4 weeks to make. We commence the holiday season at the White House with First Lady Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama welcomes the military families who organize the Quantico and Anacostia branches of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. She also describes this year’s holiday theme and what visitors can expect to see. World Footprints was among the invited members of the media to attend.
The changing of the guards at the Parliment in Ottawa is a daily event that takes place at 10:30am. This is a 30 minute production of tradition and honor.
Tonya (of World Footprints) enjoyed an afternoon dive at the Georgia Aquarium with Nandi the Manta Ray from South Africa and several whale sharks and other species. You can spot Tonya by her long brown pony tail and her “hang loose” hand signs. Scuba diving is like water ballet–very graceful. This video was filmed by the Georgia Aquarium dive team.
